Plant of the day: cymbopogon ambiguus (australian lemongrass)

Cymbopogon ambiguus, or Australian lemon-scented grass, is a plant species in the family Poaceae. It has fragrant, bluish-green grey leaves and fluffy seed heads. It is self-fertile.

It is found in all states and was traditionally used as medicine by the aboriginal peoples. Lemongrass might help prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast. Lemongrass also contains substances that are thought to relieve pain and swelling, reduce fever, improve levels of sugar and cholesterol in the blood, stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow, and have antioxidant properties.
It is most commonly taken as a tea or can also be used to flavour food.
