Having believed to have originated in southwest Siberia, but spread to much of Europe and Asia in ancient times. It has been used as a medicine for at least 5000 years and is known to reduce the risks of further heart attacks, as well as lower blood cholesterol levels. Also a strong antibiotic, garlic is used to treat colds, catarrh (thick mucous) and respiratory infections.
Actions include antibiotic, expectorant, diaphoretic, hypotensive, antithrombotic, hypolipidaemic, hypoglycaemic, antihistamine and antihelmintic (kills intestinal worms). To use: take up to 5ml (one tsp) of juice with honey or water twice a day to combat infections, arteriosclerosis, or to reduce the risk of thrombosis.
Fun fact; rub the cut side of a fresh clove on acne pustules before bed to treat acne.
