Yam Daisy (microseris scapigera). Known to indigenous Australians as ‘Murnong’ this eastern Australian weed was a staple in the aboriginal diet. Its taproots grow to large yam-like proportions and when boiled provide a starchy potato-like edible bulb.

Due to its dandelion-like seed production, it can also be easily proliferated in a natural garden bed. As its a native that thrives in dry soils, it requires very little watering and does well in poor soils.

Definitely the survivalist’s friend in the Australian bush.
